Policy on Corrections, Rectifications, and Retractions

In this journal, we are committed to maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the articles and other documents published to the best of our ability. However, we recognize that exceptional circumstances may arise that require corrections, rectifications, or even the removal of a previously published article. These actions will be carried out after careful evaluation by the editorial team of the journal, in collaboration with the staff of Academic Journals of the University of Chile, following the guidelines recommended by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

If it becomes necessary to make changes to an article, our correction process will be guided by the following procedures, considering the nature, severity, and consequences of the detected error:

Erratum:

An erratum notice will be issued when it is necessary to correct an error or omission made by the journal after publication, provided that such error does not affect the academic integrity of the article.

The article will be corrected.

A note will be added at the end of the article referring to the erratum notice.

A separate erratum notice will be published, linked to the corrected version.

The erratum will be paginated and assigned a DOI.

Corrections:

A correction notice will be issued if it is necessary to correct an error or omission made by the authors that does not compromise the academic integrity of the article.

The article will be corrected.

A note will be added at the end of the article referring to the correction notice.

A separate correction notice will be published, linked to the corrected version.

The correction will be paginated and assigned a DOI.

Retractions:

Retraction will be considered if:

  • There is clear evidence that the results are not reliable, either due to misconduct (such as data fabrication or image manipulation) or errors (such as calculation or experimental errors).
  • The results have been previously published elsewhere without cross-references, proper permission, or justification (for example, cases of redundant or duplicated publication).
  • The research involves plagiarism.
  • There is evidence of fraudulent authorship.
  • There are indications of compromised peer review.
  • There are signs of unethical research or breaches of professional ethical codes.

When the decision to retract an article has been made:

  • A retraction notice will be issued if it is determined that a significant error invalidates the conclusions of the article or if research or publication misconduct is detected.
  • A "retracted article" watermark will be added to the published version of the article.
  • The title of the article will be modified with the label "Retracted Article: [article title]".
  • A separate retraction statement will be published, linked to the retracted article, and signed by the journal editors.
  • The retraction statement will be paginated and have a DOI assigned.

Elimination of articles:

The removal of an article will be considered in exceptional circumstances, such as defamation, infringement of legal rights, court order, or serious health risk.

If the article is removed, metadata (authorship and title) will be retained, and the text will be replaced with a document indicating the removal of the article for legal reasons.

We commit to carrying out all these actions transparently, always ensuring the integrity of the academic record and respecting relevant ethical and legal standards.

The journal does not charge authors for submitting articles, nor for publishing them once accepted. It also does not charge readers for accessing its content. All articles are published under a Creative Commons cc-by license. Authors always retain copyright over their published articles and therefore maintain their publication rights without restrictions.

As an academic journal belonging to the University of Chile, it does not feature advertisements and does not pursue commercial purposes since it is nonprofit.
