Abstract

Given the contrast and tension between a Chilean identity marked by national unity and a heterogeneous sociocultural reality, we are interested in contributing to the knowledge about what historical processes or social and cultural practices have defined the construction and reproduction of national, local and ethnic identities in Chile, and what practical or theoretical importance they have played in the construction of these ideas on heritage and the past. This dossier contains a succession of writings derived from various disciplines such as art, law, archaeology, anthropology, and history, which give an account of the past, identity and heritage in Chile from a specific and critical perspective.
